The Order Sons of Italy in America (Italian: Ordine Figli d’Italia in America, a/k/a/ OSIA) is the largest and oldest Italian American fraternal organization in the United States. It was founded on June 22, 1905 by Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro to help assimilate Italians into American society during the immigration boom of the early 20th century. In 1928 Dr. Sellaro was given the key to the City of New York in recognition of his social and medical achievements.
These date back to about the early 1900's. They were used as key chain tags, key fobs, identification tags luggage / trunk tags, dog tags. Their main purpose was to return lost keys and other important items back to their rightful owners. Back in the day, locksmiths would engrave these fobs with their customer's addresses. For a fee, the U.S. Post Office would return lost keys with these types of fobs on the keychain, to their owners. The U.S. post office continues this service even today.
Made out of nickel-silver also called German silver. Nickel silver is stronger and more expensive than brass. And, it doesn't tarnish as much as brass. Back then manufacturers chose nickel-silver over brass for higher quality items. Made in the USA.
These look gorgeous and resemble sterling silver. Perfect for stamping and engraving.

During its history, OSIA has been involved in promoting immigration legislation, assisting in the assimilation process, supporting cooperation, trade, and diplomatic relations between the United States and Italy, initiating social and fraternal events, encouraging educational achievement through scholarships, serving local communities through a variety of cultural events and raising funds for local charities, and providing low-cost group financial investments and insurance.
