    Description

Vintage Retracting Reel for Key Chain by Key-Bak  1951 Patent Lummis Pasadena USA
Case is solid.  Retracting works smoothly.  Chain is in great shape.  The looks (paint) however looks like someone used this heavily for over 50 years. Here is a neat piece of some working man's history. It is a metal device, 2 inches in diameter, with a retracting 24" chain, designed to hold keys, let you pull them to unlock a door, then retract back to your beltline.
The retracting mechanism is in fine, strong working condition. The patent indicated on this reel is 2732148.  That was filed in 1951, so I estimate this device was from the early 1950's.However, since there is a zip code for Pasadena on the back, it may be early 60's.If you look up Key-Bak's web site and read about the history, you'll find that W.R. Lummis got the idea for this retractable key chain from working on the railroad.Hopefully, you can read what is printed on the device...
